Building the Engineers / Motorsport Professionals of tomorrow.
S-RC is a student-led motorsport organisation creating real opportunities for young people to experience engineering, competition, teamwork and the world of motorsport.
Why S-RC Exists
Learn by Doing. Race for Real. Build Skills Early.
We believe the best way to learn engineering isn’t just to read about it. It’s to build something, test it, get it wrong, figure out why – and then put it on a racetrack.
S-RC was created to give young people that experience. Students don’t just build an RC car. They build a motorsport team, develop a racecar, find sponsors, analyse performance and compete against teams from across the UK.
It’s STEM, but with the classroom taken away.

Our Journey
From one idea to a national grid.
2024
The idea
Founder Pete Hewage writes up the original idea – a 4×4 rock crawler RC based STEM challenge for schools, based off his experience in the JLR 4×4 in schools competition as a teen.
2025
The founding
The first group of Volunteers come together at the University of Bristol, to create what then became known as the “S-RC Cup”. The company was then founded on January 19th 2025.
2025
Launch
The S-RC Cup launched its first pre-season in September, with 20 teams making up the first grid. 2 more teams would join mid-season.
2026
Season 1
On the 6th July 2026, Lawrence Sheriff School’s Gripen Racing drove their SAAB UK sponsored car to victory at Whilton Mill, and were crowned the first ever national champions.
2026,27 and future
S-RC Pro, S2
In August 2026 S-RC announced its Pro series, designed for University students. They race alongside Cup teams, who return for Season 2.Â
The ambition is simple: get more young people building, racing and pursuing STEM careers.
Founder / CEO
Pete Hewage
“The vision is simple: create something that gives young people the chance to gain real-world engineering experience while keeping it accessible and highly competitive”
S-RC started as an idea to bring the excitement and problem-solving of motorsport into education. Since then, it has grown into a national student competition built around the same principles that make real motorsport so compelling: engineering, teamwork, development, strategy and competition
The People Behind S-RC
The Team.
S-RC is built by students, engineers, creatives and motorsport enthusiasts who volunteer their time to make the championship happen.
