From Classroom to Racetrack: Students Compete at Whilton Mill for National Title

Young engineers from across the UK will battle for championship glory as the S-RC Cup reaches its inaugural national final at Whilton Mill

Thursday the 2nd of July – The first ever season of the S-RC Cup United Kingdom RC Motorsport Championship Series will reach its climax this summer, as the top 10 teams from across the country compete for the championship title at Whilton Mill Kart Club.

After 22 teams entered the inaugural season, students will now take their purpose-built RC racing cars to one of the UK’s most established motorsport venues for the final showdown.

The Whilton Mill National Final will feature a full race weekend format, with teams taking part in two free practice sessions, a qualifying session, and a 35-minute championship-deciding final race – the longest race of the season both in duration and circuit length.

Designed to combine motorsport competition with engineering education, the S-RC Cup challenges students to design, build, develop and race their own vehicles while learning practical skills in areas including mechanical engineering, CAD, manufacturing, teamwork and race strategy.

Teams are bringing in their last upgrades, and spending what they have left in order to win here at Whilton.

The championship final represents the culmination of a season of racing, where teams have competed at venues around the UK before earning their place among the final contenders.

Pete Hewage, Founder of the S-RC Cup, said:

“The Whilton Mill National Final is a huge milestone for the S-RC Cup. At the start of the season, these teams were taking their first steps into engineering and motorsport, and now they are competing for a national championship at a dedicated motorsport venue.

What makes this special is seeing students take ownership of the entire process – from designing and building their cars to developing race strategies and competing as a team. The final is going to showcase exactly what this championship was created for: giving young people a genuine motorsport and engineering experience.”

Pete Hewage, Founder and CEO – S-RC Cup

The event will see students, teachers, families and motorsport supporters come together to celebrate the first chapter of the S-RC Cup, with the inaugural champion set to be crowned at the end of the final race.
